The ones people actually ask.

Frequently asked

Is the LearnWell4Life programme really free?

Yes. The nine video chapters are free to watch, with no account required. It is not a trial.

The videos were made in 2007. Do they still hold?

Yes. The presentation is of its time; the principles — attention, motivation, organising material, preparing for assessment — still hold.

What languages is it in?

English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa: all three versions made in 2007 are online, and the free course lets you choose for each section.

Are the courses free too?

No. The courses are sold with annual access, like every course in the family, with 20% off any three.

Which course should I start with?

Start with the one for your stage: Launchpad before university, Optimal First Year in the first year, PROSPER in the middle years, SEARCH in the final year and Research Well for postgraduate study. Grow a Gritty HERO’s Mindset suits any year.

What is a stage track?

Three courses from the student pathway for one stage (before university, the first year, through your degree or postgraduate study), bought in one step with FlourishIQ’s 20% off any three. Each course is a year’s access. The four tracks cost R3,348–R4,788 for the year; compare them.

What if I already have one of the courses in a track?

Checkout leaves out any course you already have (unless its year is in its last 60 days, when buying it again renews it) and charges only for the others. The 20% needs three courses in the order, so with two left you pay their full price, or add another course to keep the 20%.

Can a school or university buy a course for a whole class?

Yes, online. A class or intake pack is a seat in one pathway course for every learner, ordered on FlourishIQ’s group-order page: 2–4 learners list price · 5–9 learners 10% off · 10–24 learners 15% off · 25–49 learners 20% off · 50+ learners 25% off. Each learner is enrolled by email, or you receive one access code per seat. Decks and editions for a group, and anything the order page cannot do, such as an invoice, are arranged with you: ask us.

Why do some courses appear on other family sites too?

Because they genuinely serve more than one audience. Where a course is listed twice it carries the same description in both places — no separate marketing story.

What is the difference between a deck and a course?

A deck is a set of conversation cards you can use immediately, from FlourishTalk. A course is a guided programme of tools on the FlourishIQ platform. FlourishTalk puts it as: the conversation, then the depth.

Do I need to be a student?

No. The material suits school learners, university students, adults returning to study, and anyone who has to learn something difficult.

Can I run this with my class?

Yes, and at no cost. The free LearnWell4Life videos can be used with a class, residence, intake or community group without asking permission.

Is there something for teachers?

Yes: TeachSmart. The free Evidence Library holds 205 studies on how people learn, each with one thing to try this week, and Staffroom view puts any of them on the big screen for a staff meeting. The course Teach with the Evidence turns the research into practice in your own lessons and leads to the Certificate in Evidence-Informed Teaching. The LearnWell4Life videos are free to run with a class, and the Thinking & Learning decks work well in a classroom. FlourishTalk’s professional guides for educators are on flourishtalk.co.za.

What is Staffroom view?

A feature of the free Evidence Library, and only on LearnSmart4Life. One click opens any study in the free Evidence Library full screen, in large type: what it found, the strength of its evidence, one thing to try this week and a question for discussion. The arrows step through the studies you have chosen, and “Draw one for the staffroom” picks one for you. Watch it in 82 seconds.

What is the Evidence Library?

A free library of 205 studies on how people learn, in 13 themes: what each study found, what it means in class, one thing to try this week and how strong the evidence is. Each was checked against the published paper, and the myths and the debates about the numbers are named openly. No account needed.

What is the LearnSmart Challenge?

A free five-minute self-check: twelve statements on how you study and think, in four areas (remembering it, planning and checking, thinking it through, keeping going). Each area gets a score and a band, then you get one free next step, one course and the Evidence Library study behind it. It is scored in your browser and sent nowhere. It is a quick reflection, not a test.

What is the ThinkWell Practice Gym?

A free thinking-skills rep: choose one of seventeen of the nineteen ThinkWell skills and an area of your life, get a prompt and work it through. Your notes stay in your browser. The full gym is part of the ThinkWell4Life course.

What is Everyday Knowhow?

One small, useful piece of maths or science knowhow a day, with a calculator that runs it on your own numbers and a quiz each week. There are three editions of 365 days: Home & Life, Numbers, and Sport. How it works.

What does Everyday Knowhow cost?

Week 1 of every edition is free, with no account. A pass opens the year: R295 an edition with a new week every week, R395 an edition with all 52 weeks at once, or R795 for all three editions. A year from the day you first use the code.

Do I need an account for Everyday Knowhow?

No. Buy a pass and it opens on that device straight away. A code you are given opens when you type it with your email, which becomes its key. No password, and not your FlourishIQ login.

Can I read Everyday Knowhow on my phone and my computer?

Yes, on up to three devices. On a new device, type the code: we email a 6-digit number to the pass’s email to type in. A friend with only your code cannot open it.

Can I give a Knowhow pass, or buy one for a class?

Yes. Choose “This is a gift” and the code goes to the person with your message, or buy up to 50 at once and hand one code to each learner. Each code becomes the pass of whoever uses it first. Buy a pass.

I have lost my Knowhow code.

On My pass, enter the email address your pass belongs to and we email your codes to it.

Is there an affiliate programme?

Yes — aimed at student-success staff, tutors, study coaches and education consultants rather than general influencers.
