From the founder: Inner Development Goals (IDGs)

FlourishTalk: adjacent decks. By Dr Alten du Plessis, founder of LearnSmart4Life.

The Inner Development Goals (IDGs) deck is for teachers and students preparing for a complex world and wanting to contribute to it, for anyone committed to lifelong learning, and for the learner who wants their inner values and their outer contribution to line up.

The Inner Development Goals describe the inner capacities, skills and qualities people need to work with complexity, collaborate well and contribute to sustainable change. The idea at their heart is that outer change requires inner growth: thinking in systems, relating across differences and acting with courage for something larger than yourself. The framework names twenty-three such skills and qualities in five dimensions, and the questions span all five.

Each card holds one question from the five dimensions: Being, your relationship with yourself, with an inner compass, openness and a learning mindset; Thinking, with critical thinking, complexity awareness, perspective-taking and long-term orientation; Relating, with appreciation, empathy and compassion; Collaborating, with communication, co-creation and trust; and Acting, with courage, creativity, optimism and perseverance. A card in a classroom might ask what helps you see connections between seemingly unrelated issues. Like every FlourishTalk deck it is made for you, with your name on every card, and arrives by email as a print-ready PDF to print on cardstock and an eBook for a phone, tablet or computer.

For a learner I suggest beginning with Thinking, then Being, with a card that asks how comfortable you are with not knowing or being uncertain.
