From the founder: The Flourishing Student — Applying PERMA+4

The student pathway. By Dr Alten du Plessis, founder of LearnSmart4Life.

The Flourishing Student is for any university student who wants to flourish, not just cope: first-years finding their feet, students rebuilding momentum, and high achievers who want to sustain what they have built.

University asks a great deal of you all at once: studies, friendships, money, sleep, a sense of purpose. This course gives you the whole map first. It uses PERMA+4, nine building blocks of wellbeing: positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and achievement, extended with physical health, mindset, environment and economic security. You see where you stand today and start wherever it matters most to you.

You begin by drawing My Well-Being Flower, then work through a starter kit of practices in each of the nine areas, keeping the ones that suit you. A private self-check opens each module, saved so you can watch it move. In Engagement, the Fostering Flow Plan helps you protect attention and find more flow; in Environment you Craft Your Study Space; in Economic Security the Student Money Map shows where your money goes. The final module, Your Well-Being Plan, helps you leave with a plan that lasts.

I suggest you begin with the first module, Caring for Your Well-Being, and draw your flower. A short taste, your flower and a module or two, takes a few hours; the full tour runs over a semester. You can try the whole course free for a day. Your flower points you to the areas worth growing, and to deeper courses such as Grow a Gritty HERO's Mindset for mindset.
