Flourishing Is for Everyone

On opening a door that has been closed too long

By Dr Alten du Plessis

For a long time, the best of positive psychology was locked away — in expensive coaching rooms, in academic journals nobody outside the university reads, in workshops most people could never afford or reach. The science of living well became, ironically, a privilege. That has always bothered me deeply.

A first-year student adjusting to university, an athlete carrying pressure they can't name, a professional quietly burning out, a parent who simply wants more good days than hard ones — they all deserve the same tools, grounded in the same evidence. Flourishing is not a luxury good. It is a birthright we've been strangely bad at distributing.

If it works, and it's true, then everyone should be able to reach it.

That is the quiet ambition underneath FlourishIQ, and underneath its sister sites too. To take the very best of what we know about living well, make it usable, make it affordable, and put it within reach of anyone willing to do the small daily work. If these reflections speak to you, the door is open. Come in and begin.
