The Problem
"Most people never decide to become a carer. It arrives, slowly or all at once, and it is easy to go on for years without naming it, planning it or getting help. Caring itself is not the danger: heavy, unrelieved strain is. This course helps you share the load, turn the pressure down, keep the person you care for at the centre, and look after yourself along the way."

Who it's for

The right fit

Designed for For anyone helping someone who cannot fully manage on their own because of illness, disability, frailty, memory loss or mental ill health, whether you live with them or far away, are just starting or have cared for years, and for former carers after caring ends.

A practical, evidence-based companion for anyone caring for a parent, partner, child, relative or friend. It follows the whole journey of caring: recognising the role and taking it on, bringing the family in, speaking up with doctors and services, the long middle years of pressure, guilt, rest and meaning, keeping the person you care for at the centre, planning ahead, the times when care changes shape, and life when caring ends. Built on the research on what helps carers most, with South African grants, services and helplines.

Common questions

FAQ

Who is it for?
Anyone caring for someone close: an ageing parent, a partner, a child or adult child with an illness or disability, another relative, a friend or a neighbour. It also helps former carers after caring ends.
Where do I start?
With My Carer Check-In and Am I a Carer Now? in the first module. Then follow the modules in order, or choose a pathway by where you are in caring, and try one tool a week.
Is it therapy?
No. It is education and practical support for carers. If caring ever feels too heavy, every tool lists South African helplines.
